Coffee with Jesus Thoughts for April 19, 2020

GUYS. First of all, I haven’t done one of these in forever, so it’s nice to get back to it! But, here’s what brought me here, ready? A comma, a simple comma that I came across as I was in the scriptures during my “coffee with Jesus” this morning. I started working through a preview version of Lisa Bevere’s “Strong” devotional on my YouVersion app, and the first scripture was Ephesians 6:10-18. Now, I’ve read over this passage time and time again, it’s one of my favorites, and it’s marked up like crazy in my current Bible. BUT, this time it hit differently, and maybe I’m just late to the party here, so just go with me for a minute, even if I am. Look at verse 13 of that passage

“Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”

Ephesians 6:13 (NIV)

First of all, when the day of evil comes, not if, when. We’re not immune to evil, we just don’t face it alone. *enter the full armor of God.* But, check out this comma that I was talking about, “…and after you have done everything, to stand.” He not only helps us and gives us the strength to stand our ground and face the enemy in the midst of our battles, but… “…and after you have done everything…” *COMMA* “to stand.” He won’t leave us weak and worn down after we come out of our battles victorious, He gives us enough strength and protection to come out on the other side STILL STANDING, victorious, and worshiping Him in the victory. So, suit up with that full armor, tap into the strength that only comes from pressing into Him, and know, that your strength carries over even after you suit up and stand your ground when you face the day(s) of evil and the devil’s scheme’s on our life. I’ll leave you with this bit from Lisa’s devotional this morning:

“God has a plan for your life and the devil has a scheme. His scheme is to knock you out of God’s plan. The moment you became a daughter (or son, this devotional is geared towards woman) of God, you were marked by God’s Spirit and noted by the enemy. Before your rebirth you were his slave, and now you are a target. But once we are acquainted with our source of true strength, it’s time to rise.”

-Lisa Bevere, Strong

“But even if He does not…”

Wow, I haven’t done this blog post thing in a really long time, but the Lord definitely hit me with something as I was reading Daniel this morning, so I’m back, finally!

I’m sure we all know about Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego being thrown into the fiery furnace after refuding to worship the idol King Nebuchadnezzar set up, right? Well, the Lord lead me to the book of Daniel this morning, and as I was reading, verses seventeen throguh eighteen of chapter three lept off the page at me. King Nebuchadnezzar was angry at the three guys for refusing to bow down to his precious idol, and informed them of their consequences for not doing so. They replied (paraphrasing) “we don’t need to defend ourselves over this issue. Go ahead, throw us into the fiery furnace, we’re not afraid, because our God is able to deliver us from the fire, AND from your hand that threw us in there in te first place. BUT, even if He does not, we’re sticking to our guns and we STILL won’t bow down to worship your silly golden idol…” well, that REALLY ticked him off and he ordered for the furnace to be turned up to SEVEN times hotter than usual, and in they went. The heat even killed the soldiers that were assigned to throw them in there, that’s hot!!

I went back and let verse eighteen set in for a few… “But even if He does not…” Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego fully believed and trusted that God had the ability and power to rescue them from the flames, but they were also 100% set on refusing to worship the idol even if it wasn’t the Lord’s will that they be rescued from the flames. They fearlessly stuck to their word and expressed their unwavering allegiance to their God, the King of Kings!

We have to really ask ourselves, is our faith dtrong enough for the “but even if He does not…” moments in life? Even when God doesn’t pull a Superman and swoop in to rescue us from our situation or circumstances immediately, we MUST trust Him, and go throguh it knowing that He’ll use those circumstances for our good and our growth, and for His glory. We must go into any and all of life’s “fires” with confidence that God will NOT let them destroy us, but instead refine us, strengthen our witenss and testimony, and use us as living proof of His mighty, saving power.

Trust Him, even in the fire. He’s got yout back. đŸ˜‰

Weary

Even in the deepest valley

I know You walk with me

I feel Your Holy Spirit close

as it brings me to my knees

When faced with trials and heartache

I trust You know what’s best

So I give to You my weary heart

and ease into Your rest.

Through the Fire

Though the fire surrounds me

while Satan takes aim

I know you are with me

as I walk through these flames

Each difficult trial

I face not in vain

Only You know the purpose

so I’ll trust in Your ways

In You I claim victory

I’ve already won

The devil has been defeated,

the battle is done!

Guarded

The devil will try to destroy you
don’t believe a word that he says

Doubts and lies are all he knows

Don’t let him into your head.

But, the God you serve is greater

For the battle, you’re prepared

In His presence you are guarded

He makes the enemy run scared.

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

~John 10:10

The Forever Valentine

Will you be My Valentine?

I gave my life for you

I bled and died upon that cross

to give you life brand new.

Will you be My Valentine?

I’ll wipe away your tears

I’ll bear your every burden

and comfort you in fear.

If you’ll be My Valentine

I’ll be forever yours,

together for eternity

I’ve opened Heaven’s doors.

“Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.”

Hebrews 13:5

Love Enough

When my heart gets tired of waiting,

I feel Your gentle touch

as You tenderly remind me

to stop worrying so much

You know the plans You have for me,

the man You’ve set aside

Your timing is always perfect

Your ways, much better than mine

Although I get impatient,

I may plead, and beg, and cry,

I know You know what’s best for me,

and only Your Love can truly satisfy.

“Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love,

that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.”

~Psalm 90:14 (NIV)

*Conditions Do Not Apply

asteriskUnconditional love: affection with no limits or conditions, complete love. (Dictionary.com)

God loves you. Unconditionally. Forever, no matter what. You can’t make Him unlove you, ever. I love how the Message Bible translates Psalm 103:12.

As far as sunrise is from sunset, He has separated us from our sins.”

He has wiped them away, given us a fresh start. You don’t need to beat yourself up about a that mistake you made last year. Don’t punish yourself for your past wrong doings. God has completely forgotten about them. He sees you as His pure, perfect child.

Don’t let yourself get caught up in the *conditions apply mindset. The love of God doesn’t come with any catches. He just asks us to trust Him completely and know in our hearts that His plans are always better than ours.

“For God so loved the world, He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16, NIV)

It doesn’t say “that whoever is perfect,” or “that whoever doesn’t have tattoos and piercings,” “that whoever hasn’t committed a crime,” “that whoever feels worthy.” Because of the Cross, because of the Blood, four nails, a crown of thorns, unimaginable pain, we’re all worthy of His love. Don’t continue to kick yourself for something God forgave you for a long time ago.

Whoever: whatever person, any person at all.

Any person at all.

God loves you, forever and always. To the world, we’re flawed and sinful. To God, we’re perfect, pure, and holy. Just put your life in His hands and trust Him completely, you won’t regret it.

Paid in Full

Cross and Nails

Two crisscrossed tree limbs

three sharp nails

that held His body there

He shed His blood

on Calvary’s Mount

to show how much He cares

The pain He bore

was all for us

He sacrificed His life

For our home in Heaven

a life everlasting

He paid the ultimate price

Perfect Love

Perfect Love

More than enough

His love for me

He holds me close

Welcomes me back when I flee

He cleansed my soul

It’s white like snow

His grace is unending

Like a fountain it flows

On the Cross

He bled and died

He gave His life

In exchange for mine

A glorious Savior

His perfect love

One day I’ll join Him

In Heaven above
